President Obama ‘Fires Up’ Voters for Corzine
Obama and Corzine appeared together at a rally at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Hackensack. In his speech, Obama called the governor an honorable man. Obama also praised Corzine’s help with the president’s efforts to spur economic recovery and job growth.
Obama also used his signature “Fired up, ready to go” slogan from his own historic presidential campaign.
“Over the next 13 days, I ask you to stand strong with me,” [Corzine] said. “You do that, and I’ll stand strong with you over the next four years.”

Former president Bill Clinton rallies N.J. voters for Gov. Corzine reelection

Former President Bill Clinton, the second in a parade of prominent Democrats to campaign this week for Gov. Jon Corzine, touted the governor’s reelection campaign to a raucous applause during an event in Camden County this afternoon.
“I care a lot about the governor and I care a lot about this state. New Jersey’s been very good to me,” Clinton said. “I’m here because I want the president and our people in Congress to succeed in bringing this country back economically … and it matters what the governors do, it matters what the states do.”

Biden stumps for Corzine, talks economic recovery

In his 22-minute speech the vice president described the event as an “old-fashioned get-out-the-vote” rally.
Biden allowed how the governor has spent the latter part of his term grappling with the worst economy in eight decades. The economy is on the rebound, he said. “Now we’re talking about the shape of recovery.”
If voters give Corzine another four years to govern in better times, Biden said, the governor will be hailed as “one of the great governors in the United States of America.”
It was a congenial event Monday with U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., hailing the vice president as “plain good guy Joe.”

$100,000-plus pensions for 138 recently retired N.J. employees
Some fear New Jersey’s pension system for public employees eventually will crack under its growing debt, but it’s still working just fine for current retirees.
Corzine budgeted a total of $3 billion in contributions to the pension system in his first three years in office — half the required amount, but still more than the state had paid in the prior 10 years.
He has touted his efforts to reform the pension system, by raising the retirement age for new state employees from 55 to 62 and implementing other controls that are projected to save $6.4 billion by 2022.
