State health care coverage program for children climbs to record enrollment of 100,000
Corzine Administration officials Thursday announced that the state’s NJ FamilyCare program hit a landmark milestone of nearly 100,000 new children enrolled since January 2006.
The new high, officials said, is a result of a first-in-the-nation express eligibility initiative, the elimination of premiums for some working families, and a broadcast media campaign, more than 12,000 children have been enrolled in the health care program since June.

Achievement gap narrows in New Jersey schools
New Jersey schools are making progress in closing the so-called “achievement gap” between black, Hispanic and low-income students and their white suburban classmates, according to a national report released Thursday.
New Jersey officials put a positive spin on the report, with Education Commissioner Lucille Davy calling it a clear sign that the state’s approach to improving teaching and learning is working.
“We are on the right track, but much hard work remains,” Davy said. She credited Gov. Jon S. Corzine for his support of education and public preschool in a new release release issued by the Governor’s Office.

Corzine signs legislation changing how county political organizations are governed
Gov. Jon Corzine Friday signed legislation that makes changes to current laws governing the activities of county political party committees.
“This legislation is another step forward in our efforts to bring more transparency and ethics to government,” Corzine said.
“This law is a reform of the party structure here in New Jersey,” said Sen. Loretta Weinberg, (D-Bergen), a long-time advocate of open government and the Democratic lieutenant governor candidate. “As the prime sponsor of this bill, we designed it to ensure that there is an even playing field within party organizations with openness and due process.”

Gov. Corzine unveils two Newark youth initiatives
New Jersey unveiled plans today to replicate a widely praised Harlem charter school in Newark and Camden, launching a preemptive bid for a proposed federal grant that will expand the New York effort across the nation.
Under the $24,000 state initiative, two local nonprofit organizations will receive training from the Harlem project, called the Harlem Children’s Zone, which has won plaudits from President Barack Obama to mega-celebrity Oprah Winfrey for its anti-poverty and school programs that serve more than 10,000 children in a 97-block area in Manhattan.

Corzine to Repeal N.J. Tax Increase Early If Economy Rebounds
New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine said he would repeal his temporary income-tax increase early if the economy rebounds.
The governor said his top goals if re-elected to a second term are the economy and education. Corzine, 62, intends to increase property-tax rebates and school aid, as long as the economy improves, he said today in an interview with Bloomberg News in New Brunswick.
First Governor’s Debate
“Hundreds of people greeted me outside njn before the debate. Nothing gets me in the zone like my supporters. -Jon”
Corzine 09 would like to thank all of our fellow voters for supporting Corzine at the debate. Below is footage of the mass amount of Corzine supporters cheering the governor on.

Candidates confront Jersey issues in debate
“Mr. Christie has no plan. It’s a fantasy,” Corzine said, sounding his steady theme that the Republican has offered no substance on the stump. “Making tough decisions in a tough environment is what being a governor is about. “No plan is not what being a governor is about.”… Corzine went after Christie for being vague and holding himself to a standard of behavior more lenient than what he expects from others, including those he prosecuted as the state’s top federal prosecutor.

In New Jersey, a Sharp, Scrappy Debate
“Mr. Corzine, an uneasy debater on his best nights, nonetheless left no attack unanswered. “When Mr. Christie doesn’t like the truth, he makes up his own version,” he said, saying that census data showed a rise in median income in 2008 and that he had restored property tax rebates for many people…But Mr. Daggett, in one of several barbs aimed at Mr. Christie, shot back: “It’s easy to criticize when you have no plan of your own. The tooth fairy’s not going to solve this problem.”
New Web Ad
The Corzine/Weinberg campaign earlier this week released the following web ad to highlight an exchange Bush Republican gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie recently had with a cancer survivor at the Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics forum at Rider University on September 16, 2009.
During this exchange, Christie was quick to cut off the unidentified cancer survivor with questions about his position to allow health insurance companies to drop coverage for mammograms and other critical procedures by telling her the cancer she got in her 20’s was an “exception.”
