Corzine ‘09 Campaign Manager Maggie Moran sent the following email to supporters:
Dear Friend,
I have two little girls — 2 and 4 years old. I pay for them to go to pre-school, and I’m blessed that I’m able to do so.
But I want to tell you about what Chris Christie said in the Republican debate a few months back when he thought only his ultra-conservative supporters were watching.
He called early pre-school education “babysitting” and mocked Governor Corzine for supporting it. You can watch the video here.
As a mother and as a working woman, that is probably one of the most offensive things I have ever heard.
Almost all of us that have kids have paid for daycare in some way, shape or form, but we all would have much preferred to pay for education in pre-school if we could afford to do it.
The fact is that Jon Corzine has prioritized pre-Kindergarten and leveling the playing field for all our children since the day he arrived in Trenton. That’s why he’s invested in expanding pre-school to our suburban communities as well. There is no more important educational reform than this one — when a child learns how to learn before Kindergarten, research shows it has a remarkably positive effect on their educational outcomes.
While the Governor cut spending by $1 billion last year, he also increased education aid over the last 2 years by $1.8 billion, and he did it because he has the same values that we have.
Chris Christie? He is wrong on this because he doesn’t know the value of pre-Kindergarten investment in our children.
It’s just the latest example of how Christie continues to be extremely wrong when it matters most. If you agree with Jon Corzine that there is no more important investment in our future than educating our children, then please go to NJVoteFromHome.com and request your ballot to vote for Jon Corzine today.
Thank you,
Maggie Moran
